So what makes our Fertility Enhancement Program so unique and effective?
We address the root cause

Determining and then addressing the root cause of your symptoms allows us figure out what’s really going on in your reproductive system and then correct that imbalance. This is what allows you to experience long lasting, true healing and wellness.

We use an all natural approach
Natural medicine is powerful, effective without the toxicity associated with pharmaceutical drugs and chemicals.  Decreasing your toxin load frees up more of your energy and resources for healing and transformation.  Natural medicine can also be used to reduce the side effects of your drugs.
We awaken your body's natural ability to heal

Your body was designed to self-regulate and self-heal.  Symptoms happen when this capacity gets blocked.  Healing happens when we remove these blocks and remind the body of it’s innate, natural healing ability.

We fuse ancient wisdom with modern science
Ancient wisdom honours the use of natural medicines and the body’s natural ability to heal itself.  Modern science has provided technology and specialized insight into the physical and chemical processes in the body.  This combination contributes to improved treatment outcomes.
We keep it simple

Simplicity in treatment means less confusion for your body while it heals.  It is also the way you’re going to be able to make positive lifestyle changes that are sustainable and long lasting.  Keeping it simple makes your healing journey easier and more straightforward.

Transitional care as your symptoms & health stabilize
Once we see stable improvements, we will begin to reduce the frequency of visits.  The goal will be to maintain the improvements we’ve achieved with more frequent, regular treatment.  Initially you’ll come every week, then less frequently, then you’ll no longer need regular treatments.  We’ll be here in case you ever want to come in for a tune-up or address other health concerns.  Of course, MANY of our patients do wish to continue with “ongoing maintenance” and we are happy to do that, should that be your wish.
Common Questions & Answers:

Many women and folks who are trying to conceive are anxious to understand how long it will take to get pregnant. The timeframe for results varies and we can definitely give you a more accurate estimate at your free consultation. We have seen varying timeframes for folks trying to get pregnant from as little as 1 month to as long as 12 months. Everyone is different and there are various factors that contribute to a women’s fertility. We approach patient’s health from a from a holistic perspective to understand their system and how best to support.

+ How to get pregnant faster?

Each woman is unique when it comes to menstrual cycle health and fertility which will impact one’s timeline for getting pregnant. However, it isn’t a matter of getting pregnant faster, it is about optimizing the hormonal system and the neuroendocrine axis (the communication between your nervous and endocrine/hormonal/reproductive system) so that it doesn’t take as long to get pregnant. What’s Good Wellness can support with this process through acupuncture, Chinese Medicine herbs and nutrition support and prescribing fertility-specific supplements like folic acid and prenatal vitamins.

+ What are the chances of getting pregnant?

Each woman is unique when it comes to menstrual cycle health and fertility which will impact one’s chances of getting pregnant. Everyone is different and there are various factors that contribute to a women’s fertility. We approach patient’s health from a from a holistic perspective to understand their system and how best to support.

Difficulty with getting pregnant is known as infertility and is diagnosed when there is no conception (when the sperm fertilizes the egg) after twelve months/one year of unprotected sex.

Secondary infertility occurs when a woman has had at least one prior pregnancy and delivery but is experiencing difficulty conceiving and getting pregnant with subsequent children.

+ What is fertility?

Fertility is defined as the ability to conceive and bear children. Or the ability to get pregnant through sexual intercourse. However, we don’t like to pigeon hole our clients or add unnecessary pressure. Getting pregnant may be challenging for a period of time for some individuals, but it doesn’t mean having a child is impossible.

+ When is a woman most fertile?

A woman is most fertile during the ovulation stage of their cycle, which is generally between day 12-14 of your cycle. During the ovulation stage of your cycle is when the chances of getting pregnant are increased because the egg drops from the ovary in preparation of being fertilized by a sperm.

Acupuncture can be a support in getting pregnant during ovulation because it improves your neuroendocrine axis (the communication between your nervous and endocrine/hormonal/reproductive system), improves blood circulation to your uterus and ovaries, and dramatically reduces your stress – all which support with fertility.

+ What is ovulation?

Ovulation is when the egg drops from the ovary mid-way through a women’s cycle (approximately day 12-14). When the egg drops on ovulation day, the fertility window is open as the egg is waiting to be fertilized by a sperm and begins travelling down the fallopian tube. During this fertility window a woman’s chances of getting pregnant are higher than other times of their cycle. Fertility tests such as ovulation predictor kits (OPK) can help determine when your fertile window and ovulation are occurring.

+ When does ovulation occur? When do I ovulate?

Ovulation occurs mid-way through the cycle around day 12-14 of a 28 day cycle. This can change depending on the length of ones menstrual cycle. If you are unsure when you are ovulation, there are a few things to do.

Basal body temperature testing measures body temperature when fully resting, which is naturally higher during ovulation. If you are tracking ovulation, it is best to track your temperature daily to know when it begins to increase.

Before and during ovulation, women often experience cervical mucus secretion from their vagina that is an egg white consistency. This mucus is 100% natural and is a great indicator that ovulation is occurring.

+ How to increase fertility?

What’s Good Wellness specializes in providing support to women and folks trying to conceive. We use various techniques to support patients on their fertility journey including acupuncture, nutrition, supplements, herbal medicine and mindset coaching.

Acupuncture improves your neuroendocrine axis (the communication between your nervous and endocrine/hormonal/reproductive systems), improves circulation to your uterus and ovaries, and dramatically reduces your stress – all of which benefits your fertility.

We consider food to be medicine at What’s Good Wellness. We focus on providing dietary suggestions that reduce inflammation, improve blood flow and circulation and removes stagnation and excessive dampness in the body (all of which contribute to fertility challenges). We work with patients to find a fertility diet that works for them and their unique needs.

Herbal plant medicine have been used for centuries for fertility and other conditions such as abnormal menstruation, polycystic ovarian syndrome, pelvic inflammatory diseases etc. They can restore depleted energy, balance hormones, reduce inflammation and can have many other positive effects on your fertility.

It can be incredibly stressful when struggling with unexplained infertility, taking a significant toll of your mental and emotional health. We believe health is holistic thus mental health is just as important as physical health. We aim to provide patients with the skills to de-stress, relax and focus on healing inside and outside of the clinic.

+ How does acupuncture help with fertility?

Acupuncture improves your neuroendocrine axis (the communication between your nervous and endocrine/hormonal systems), improves circulation to your uterus and ovaries, and dramatically reduces your stress – all of which benefits your fertility.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles are extremely thin and are inserted with a gentle technique.  People often don’t even realize when the needles are being inserted.

What about herbal medicine?

Herbal and plant medicine have been used for centuries for fertility and other conditions.  The can restored depleted energy, balance hormones, reduce inflammation and can have many other positive effects on your fertility.

Do you give dietary recommendations?

Absolutely.  You will receive specific nutritional recommendations based upon your unique needs and the unique needs of those trying to conceive. This fertility diet with be customized to your needs to optimize your fertility rate.

What are fertility drugs?

Fertility drugs are medications used to support women and folks on their fertility journey and are often prescribed by your fertility clinic. The most common fertility drugs used are ones that support and stimulate ovulation. They decrease the amount of estrogen the body produces. Ovulation occurs when an egg matures and is released by the ovary into the fallopian tube. It is required in order for the ova (egg) to become fertilized, therefore the timing of ovulation is important. In addition to ovulation drugs, pregnancy support drugs such as progesterone are used to sustain early pregnancy for high risk individuals.

There can be side effects of these drugs such as mood changes, anxiety, depression, nausea, vomiting, headaches, ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome etc.

What is IVF?

Fertility clinics provide various fertility treatments to support women in getting pregnant. In vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment uses a combination of fertility drugs and procedures to support the chances of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy. Fertility drugs are used to mature several eggs (ova), which are then retrieved from the body. The ova are introduced/mixed with sperm in a lab. The embryo (fertilized egg) is then put back into the uterus for implantation or frozen for later transfer. This later transfer is called frozen embryo transfer (FET). When the embryo implants, pregnancy happens.

IVF differs from Intrauterine insemination (IUI) (artificial insemination) because with IUI treatment, the sperm is artificially injected into the body to fertilize the egg. It is less invasive than IVF.

Acupuncture can be a support during IVF treatment because it improves the neuroendocrine axis (the communication between your nervous and endocrine/hormonal/reproductive systems), strengthens ovulation, improves circulation to your uterus and ovaries, and dramatically reduces your stress – all which support with fertility.

Jessica, a 41-year-old architect:
‘Trying to conceive with an autoimmune disease & advanced maternal age’

Jessica had always wanted to be a mother but had difficulty conceiving.  She had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis several years before and her doctors suspected this was contributing to the infertility she experienced. We started Jessica on a simple treatment plan where she received acupuncture and took herbal medicine. The first thing Jessica noticed as she started treatment was a reduction in her overall stress. Slowly her joints became less swollen and painful, the stiffness lessened and she was able to move around better. After about six months of treatment Jessica came in for her appointment and announced happily, “I am expecting!” Today Jessica continues to live with minimal joint discomfort and her son Shane is a happy, healthy boy that loves dinosaurs and lego.

Rowena, a 43-year-old insurance underwriter:
‘Trying to conceive their second child after failed IUI & IVF’

Rowena already had one child when she first came to see us. She desperately wanted her son to have a sibling. Rowena had been diagnosed with advanced maternal age, high FSH and poor quality eggs.  She had undergone two failed IUIs and one failed IVF cycle. Of the 4 eggs they retrieved, only two fertilized, but just one became a healthy embryo.  Unfortunately the transfer was unsuccessful.  We started Rowena on a simple treatment plan initially with acupuncture and then after a few sessions started herbal medicine. Rowena became noticeably less anxious and worried. After four months of treatment, she came in all smiles announcing, “I’m pregnant!” At the time of writing she is 23 weeks along and glowing!

Sarah, a 37-year-old marketing manager:
‘Trying to conceive after several miscarriages’

Sarah, 37, is the mother of a rambunctious two-year-old girl named Luna. Before Luna was conceived, Sarah and her husband had been trying to conceive for over three years without success. Just as Sarah was about to start her first cycle of IUI, she discovered that she was pregnant! When Luna turned one, Sarah and her husband decided that they were ready to expand their family again. Sarah was able to get pregnant three times in the year before she came to see us but unfortunately she suffered early miscarriages each time. Her doctors weren’t able to detect a reason for the miscarriages. After Sarah did her free consultation and intake assessment, we determined that Sarah’s periods weren’t optimal. They were very heavy, dark in colour, clotty and she experienced significant cramping and PMS symptoms. Using acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutritional supplements we began to improve Sarah’s blood and energy circulation and supported her hormonal system. Within the first menstrual cycle as a patient with us, Sarah reported that her period was much better. There was significantly less pain, no clotting and the menstrual blood was bright red. After four months of treatment, Sarah sent us a message before her next appointment sharing the exciting news that she was pregnant!  She welcomes her baby later this year!

Alex, a 34-year-old public relations co-ordinator:
‘Trying to conceive with low AMH & poor egg quality’

Alex, 34, and her husband had been trying to get pregnant for nearly five years. They weren’t given very much hope by her doctors. Alex’s hormone levels were very low, in particular her AMH.  She sadly told us, “My doctor says that I have the ovaries of an almost 50 year old woman. Do you think there’s hope for me?” I confidently told her that in her case there is always hope.  Alex started with acupuncture and small changes to her eating habits. She immediately noticed that her energy level increased and she was sleeping better at night. After a few weeks we added in herbal medicine to support her hormones and menstrual cycle. When she returned for her appointment after seeing her fertility doctor, she smiled happily and told me, “My doctor was so surprised after looking at my blood work. All my levels are coming up! She said whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!” Alex was due to start a medicated cycle with the fertility clinic (where she would be given medications to stimulate ovulation) the next menstrual cycle but she became pregnant during her current cycle.  They are getting ready to welcome their daughter in the coming months!
