Our Approach

We are committed to providing exceptional natural health care with measurable results.

Our process starts with an initial in-person consultation, followed by a comprehensive assessment intake, and the development of a treatment plan that is designed just for you.  Our clinical foundation is rooted in the time-tested and proven fundamentals of Chinese medicine.  We also draw upon over a decade of clinical practice, continuing education and development.

We design a plan to help you achieve your health goals with ease and peace of mind.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in China nearly 3,000 years ago and remains one of the oldest, safest and most commonly used healing system in the world.

Stimulation to an acupuncture point signals the body’s innate ability to heal.  Each treatment sends a specifically targeted message to your body that initiates its capacity to self-heal and regulate.

The fact that it continues to be practiced millennia after is creation and spread world wide, is a testament to how effective it is as a healing system.  Time weeds out the things that are ineffective and don’t work.

Modern science is now just beginning to understand the mechanism of acupuncture in a way that satisfies the Western, analytic way of thinking:

  • Doppler ultrasound shows that acupuncture increases blood flow and circulation.
  • Functional MRI scans show that acupuncture elicits changes in neurological function.
  • Thermal imaging shows that acupuncture decreases inflammation.
  • Studies show that acupuncture can influence the balance of the endocrine (hormonal) system.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicines consist of more than 5,000 substances derived from flowers, plants, mineral and occasional animal sources. The use of these substances can be traced back to 1,000 BC.

Unlike medications that have multiple side effects, one of the most appealing qualities of Chinese herbal medicine is the low risk of side effects.  When prescribed by a skilled and knowledgable herbalist, herbal medicine is a safe, natural and effective treatment for many different health conditions.

Unlike Western herbal medicine (where a variety of herbs are group together to address a particular symptom or function), Chinese herbal medicine is prescribed as a formula.  Each formula contains anywhere from two to over 20 ingredients that work together synergistically.  Meaning, that as one unified whole the formula functions in an elegant, specifically targeted fashion.

Formulas are designed to address symptoms while simultaneously correcting the underlying imbalance that contributed to the symptom presentation.  This dual action is unique to herbal medicine.

The elegance and beauty in Chinese herbal medicine lays in our ability to customize and tailor your formula to your specific condition, symptoms, root cause and constitution.  Making your formula unique to you.

Functional Nutrition Therapy

Hippocrates said it best, “let food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.”

When your cells, glands, tissues and organs are fully nourished with the specific nutrients they need, they naturally function at a very high level.  This means you feel your best because your body’s key systems are optimized.

Certain types of cells depend on specific nutrients in order to thrive.  For instance, your cardiac muscle needs high levels of CoQ10, your bone marrow needs high levels of iron and zinc, and your adrenal glands need B vitamins.

We can target your functional nutrition plan to the specific needs of your body.  Our unique way of combining medicinal foods and supplements produces better results in less time.  That’s because we’re targeting the exact areas your body needs help from all the possible angles.

Mind-body Medicine

When your nervous system is calm, your hormonal, immune, digestive, and circulatory systems all calm down too.   This leads to a more focused mind, a stronger immune system, less inflammation, improved circulation, optimal nutrient absorption and increased resiliency overall.

When your mind is more focused, you stay on track and get things done more easily.  This means you’ll be able to make the small adjustments to your lifestyle that we’ll recommend in your treatment plan and you’ll see positive changes more quickly.  You’ll be much more likely to sustain these lifestyle adjustments and positive changes longterm.

We’ll guide you through practices such as meditation (which is easier than you think), visualization, affirmations, breath work and other cultivational practices.  These effective techniques reduce anxiety, frustration and stress, creating a wide path for your body’s healing systems to do their work.

Our Step-by-Step Method

Initial in-person consultation

Detailed assessment, report of findings & treatment plan

Active treatment & symptom resolution

Transitional care as your symptoms & health stabilize

Taking care of your friends & loved ones

1.  Initial in-person consultation

Your initial consultaiton is a conversation to discuss your primary health concerns and your goals in seeking treatment. We want to make sure our program is a good fit for you before we move on to the next steop: your full intake assessment, health history, and treatment plan.

2.  Comprehensive assessment & first treatment

After your consultation we schedule your full assessment intake.  Your intake appointment is primarily focused on gathering a comprehensive health history.  Time permitting, you’ll also receive your first acupuncture treatment.  We’ll schedule your report of findings and first follow-up appointment for a few days later.

3. Information session, report of findings & treatment plan

After your assessment, we will present you with your report of findings and treatment plan.  This is a three step process that is done in-person.

  1. During your new patient information session, we will share with you life-changing health strategies, leading edge information, and a detailed overview of how Chinese medicine, acupuncture and functional nutrition work.  We know there is tremendous power in your fully understanding our process and how we are going to help you.
  2. After the new patient information session, your clinician will join you online to go over your report of findings; a detailed summary of where the patterns of disharmony and imbalance are and the root cause of your problems.
  3. Your clinician will recommend a treatment plan based upon your report of findings.  The plan will provide you with an estimated timeline for restorative care, and the specific steps we recommend to get you from where you are to where you want to be.  It will include a unique combination of acupuncture treatments, nutrition and lifestyle adjustments, key supplements, personalized herbal medicine prescriptions and mind-body techniques to address the root cause of your specific issue.

We will do our best to explain everything to you, and before we begin your care, we will answer all the common questions you may have such as:

  • What’s happening to me?
  • How long will it take to help me?
  • How often will I need to come in?
  • How much will it cost?

4.  Active treatment for symptom resolution

This is the active phase of your care where we use a unique combination of our tools (acupuncture, herbal medicine, functional nutrition, mind-body medicine, supplements, etc.) to correct the underlying root cause of your symptoms and build momentum towards achieving your health goals and the long-lasting, stable changes that you desire.

Frequency of treatments and the duration of this phase of your care varies depending on the individual, the severity and nature of your condition.  We may begin with one to two visits per week for  few weeks to gain momentum.  We track your progress and symptom changes to make sure that your treatment plan is achieving the expected results in the expected time frame, and we modify your plan as needed.

5.  Stable improvements and transitional care

Once we begin to see stable improvements, we begin to reduce the frequency of your office visits.  Your personal commitment to your self-care outside of the clinic (i.e. taking your herbal medicine and supplements as prescribed and incorporating our simple nutritional and lifestyle recommendations) will expedite this transition.  We’ll reduce treatments incrementally until you no longer as frequent, regular visits.

That being said, most of our patients choose to continue with ongoing and less frequent maintenance care because acupuncture makes them feel so good.  We are also here for you if you feel you need a “tune-up” or want to address other health concerns.

6.  Taking care of your friends and loved ones

We’re proud to say that a majority of our new patients are referred to us by other patients or people in the community who have witnessed their friends and loved ones receive life-changing benefits from our work.

We look forward first to helping YOU, and then to helping your friends, family and loved ones on THEIR journey to a more joyful, energetic and purposeful life.
